Implement notifications with a progress bar

I would like to discuss the possibility to implement notifications with a progress bar in the indicator-applet.
This would be useful for tracking long operations (downloads, file transfers, package installations, partitioning resize, maybe others such as playing songs) and for the ability to pause/cancel them in a common place.
This would of course lead in patching applications.
If this proposal is wrong for you, because it needs to be handled in another application, please close this immediately.
