NetApp - Restrict LIF creation Per HA Pair
Registered by
Gireesh Awasthi
ONTAP nodes have a limit on the number of Logical Interfaces (LIFs) they can create. This limit varies based on the ONTAP version, hardware model, and other factors. Generally, each ONTAP node has a limit of 1024 LIFs. In a High Availability (HA) pair configuration, the total limit is 2048 LIFs, with each node supporting up to 1024 LIFs.
This configuration works well under normal circumstances. However, in the event of a node failure, all data LIFs from the failed node must be migrated to the surviving node. If the total number of LIFs exceeds the per-node limit, the storage failover process may fail.
