Add a "popularity" column to synaptic similar to the one in "Add/Remove" aplications

I find that when I'm using synaptic to search for a program that provides X functionality, there are more than plenty available, but I don't always want to try every flavor. Sometimes I just want the one most used. Synaptic doesn't have this, so all I have to go on is the version #, which doesn't provide any help in my case.
If you add a popularity column to synaptic like the one already in "add/remove applications", someone in my situation can quickly search for what he needs. Also if this is already implemented somewhere else, why isn't it here? Feels like a downgrade.
