Bluetooth Manager UI and applet - bases
Aim : a good GUI to avoid for users the need of command line in terminal or text-file edit for bluetooth configuration - for keyboard/mouse, headsets, phones/pda, and all other.
Current problematic : The Bluetooth Preferences Gui in Gnome pannel /System/Preferences should be more complete. We need too to have the possibility to create internet connection via bluetooth with a Gui. This is not only used by geeks, a lot of consultants "on the road" use internet via cellphone/bluetooth to stay connected when moving from office.
The idea : We can design an applet called "Gnome Bluetooth Manager" wich can work like the "Gnome Network Manager" :
- keep the current Bluetooth applet icon
- left-clic on it would show the list of visible peripherals, and selecting a device in the list would launch a separate window with the list of services, giving the possibility to configure what the user wants to use of the device in a easy way
- right clic provides access to preferences (like it does at the moment with the bluetooth icon/applet)
- preferences panel should be more complete, with the management of bluetooth keyboard/mouse (so no need anymore to edit a text file to set HIDD_ENABLED to 1)
Please have in mind that having a simple and complete Bluetooth Manager Gui would give to Ubuntu and GNU Linux a good advantage on Windows Vista, which has a poor wireless devices management at the moment.
