Tab in Nautilus describing what the important directories do.
Greetings,
There were people who wanted the GoboLinux filesystem hierarchy to get implemented in Ubuntu, for better understanding and easier moving from Windows. I think that looking closer, is better, tho. Instead of changing the whole filesystem; Why dont we add an explanation of each of the important directories (/usr/, /etc/, /bin/, /proc, etcetera) in Nautilus, or whatever is the default GUI file browser? The new users who will need this help, will surely move in their Linux system using that GUI browser, and they will be able to get info on what the current directory is, really easily. The advanced user, will be able to ,just, disable that notification. Its not really hard to do that, since only basic and easily understandable information must be displayed, and that info can be obtained from various threads in the forum explaining the filesystem, from Wikipedia, from hier, or for a more proffessional approach, completely rewriten.
I know that there is "man hier" but beginners surely dont know that one. And most times they are bored/confused or just tired enough, to search that directory in the web.
Below is the link to the thread in ubuntuforums.org, its not really large, but I many users approved of my idea, so I took the chance to put it here.
